Hey folks,

So this is a very nooby question and I know that we aren't clear on the specifics of the different BDs coming out but...

I am not clear on exactly how many different versions of BD there will be and I'm even less clear on what determines the difference between them.

As in if the 8 core or 4 core will be better for gaming.

Could someone in plain terms help clear these things up for me? As when they are released I would like to have an idea clearly of which one I want to be looking at :)

We don't know about performance, just wait till tomorrow.

I would have thought based on the cores and other info in those lists that people who know quite a lot about processors would be able to have an educated guess at which of them will be the best performance wise for gaming.

if your on a tight budget the 4 core could be a bargain as its rumoured price is around £100 especially if you can unlock extra cores still - but I have not seen any definate proof that you can unlock extra's yet.

I would imagine the 4 core runs cooler and therefore OCing should be good. If its at that price and say 90% as good as SB and OC's to similar levels (4.5-5ghz) then it would be a winner in my eyes.

I'm interested in the best performing processor for gaming. Price isn't an issue as I've been saving.

Do you think the FX-8150 will be the best BD performance wise for gaming?

i would say the 8150 will be the best for gaming yes, in absolute terms. but the 6100 would likely be better value as it'll be a good bit cheaper, and will overclock to similar clock speeds. given most of the time you'll use 4 cores or less, the 6100 would perform just as well as the 8150 (at same clock). the 4100 would be good too but it won't age as well, what with more and more modern games having good multithreading support.

so basically if price is no issue then go for the 8150. however if you widen the scope beyond bulldozer the 2500k or 2600k would both be better buys for gaming.

Best for gaming will be i5 2500k. It will also give you good results in other things aswell! which is what you want if you want a future proof gaming rig.
