Serious Concerns Regarding DPD

Hello guys,

I'm starting to worry about the service you're getting from DPD, and how they are treating some of your parcels.

On the 24th and 27th of July I placed two orders with OCUK here, for a number of items, including 4 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB SATA-II 32MB Cache. Within a couple of days, all 4 of the HDD's had developed faults, some of them being failing SeaTools tests, and one of them not even spinning up. This did occur after a power outage on the fileserver they were in, so I figured just a case of extreme bad luck, and you guys at OCUK were kind enough to offer RMA replacements.

We had a little issue with DPD delivering the replacements, apparently the courier was unable to find my address, and unable to reach me by phone, so the items were placed back onto the van to be delivered the next day. The next day he managed to contact me, so I was able to guide him to my address. I gather he was new to the area or something similar, not a big issue, it happens. The 4 replacement HDD's arrived in two seperate packages, 2 of them slotted into my PC fine and work fantastically well to this day. The other two, which came packaged together were giving me the winding, grinding, clicking noise of a dead HDD.

I contacted OCUK again, and you were again very helpful, and upon sending the two duff HDD's back to you, another two were winging their way to me. Again we had issues with DPD delivery, I think we can take the blame for this one as the wife was out when they called. We arranged for them to hold the packages at the depot for us, and my wife went down there today to pick them up. Upon getting the HDD's home, I've gone to install them, and I have the clicking sound of another two failed HDD's. Now I refuse to believe that OCUK could possibly have sent out that many faulty HDD's, all items were packaged pretty well, encased in bubble wrap inside a cardboard box, I have a distinct feeling that the courier working for DPD in Crawley is an utter *******.

I'm now faced with my 3rd RMA of these items, an action in itself which costs me about £8 a time, and in all honesty I dont even know if I can be bothered with the hassle.

I take it the best root will be another phonecall to the RMA department on Monday morning?

Cheers for your help OCUK, we may have had our differences in the past! but I seriously doubt this is your fault, but I'm worried about the service you're getting from DPD.

I would hope that OCUK are covering the postage costs.

It is possible OCUK got a bad batch, if the items were packaged correctly they shouldn't get damaged in transit.

TBH I blame seagate here rather than OcUK or DPD... despite the problems with the .11s supposedly "fixed" a lot of them still seem to be failing. (I can count 3 instances in recent memory where I've told people to avoid them, they've still bought them anyway, and they've failed inside approx. 2 months).

All the 7200.12s I've used in builds for people have so far been fine fingers crossed.

Most modern hard discs with the heads "parked" will take a massive amount of kinetic damage without malfunctioning.

i also had a bad time with DPD,i spent 2 grand on a pc from oc.uk a few months ago on a watercooled pc,i got a email from DPD saying that my item was on its way so i sat at the window waiting for the driver,he soon showed up and started to unload my pc from the back of his van ,as it was a corsair obsidan the box was quite big so he tried moving it with some kind of trolley, what happened next i couldnt belive, while he tried to move it from the van to my front door this huge box fell off his trolley and started rolling down the street with the driver running behind it trying to catch it,i fell like crying, then when i asked him what had happened he tried to deny it,i dont think he knew i was watching him from my window,il not say what i called him next,oc.uk should sack these fools,i wouldnt use them again?

I work in Horsham and dpd Crawley deliver to me with a lot of diligence and care, I think u have a bad egg deliver your area! I feel your pain, I bought a 1tb ext hdd from amazon and I watch the hdnl throw my package out the van, when I confonted him he said it fell out and then became very rude, needless to say the hdd didn't work and I found ocuk ( thank god!)

DPD guy (always the same guy bless him) who delivers to me in Newcastle is fantastic. Never had any problems at all and he ships relatively fragile goods to me all te time.

My DPD guy in Oxford is a right laugh, got some good football banter on him as well. Never had a problem with DPD, even in London they are fine just not got so much time at the door for a chat.

Luck of the draw, DPD have been the best for me..

I got my i7 950 delivered by them and it looked like someone stood on the box. Also it was ripped in several places and all the corners had been damaged.

DPD use many different drivers. Unsurprisingly, some of them will be more professional than others. The same can be said about any delivery service, from Royal Mail to UPS.

I do not get how people who have probably had experience with one or two drivers will extrapolate that to be true of the entire organisation. The best thing to do is to let their employers know and to voice your concerns, because it is highly doubtful that anyone, working off personal experience alone, will have an accurate picture of how the service performs in general.

That being said, take it up with Overclockers and with the company. They will listen to you, they have very little reason to want to employ people who do a poor job and that in turn damage their reputation.
