This is really starting to annoy me!!!!

My computer has started to automatically shutdown (occurs when I try to connect to the internet and when I first boot up.) After re-booting windows displays an error message saying it has recovered from a serious error?? Can anyone shed any light on this?

I am running windows xp 64-bit and this mainly occurs when I either first boot up or else when connecting to the internet.

If you restart the PC, from windows, just a standard Start Menu > Shutdown > Restart, does that work ok?

The reason i asked is to isolate if it's a shutdown problem.

Seen quite a few PC's shut down too quickly or not save at shutdown correctly, this can produce errors on bootup.

I have problems whenever i shut this one, in that it can't be shutdown, i have to hold the power button... It's a faulty AN7.... but i'm used to seeing that kind of problem after a few forced power offs.

It shuts down fine normally, its when I start up, it tends to black screen and restart again and I get that serious error message.

Shutting down is shutting down (in most cases) and it won't necessarily show a problem. If a PC shuts down incorrectly though you may get data corruption, which you'll experience once you turn it back on....

A restart is essentially like bootup accept the PC started from an ON state. If that works, then i'd personally assume the problem occurs at shut down.

Ok try loggin off, then shutdown, then power up, same problem?

ok logged off then shutdown and powered up but same thing happened again although it happened when I connected to the internet?

its happened again!!!!aarrgghhh!! intalled CS4 tried to open 64bit version and black screened on me. Is this a software or hardware problem? Has this happened to anyone else?
