All this issues started within last month, no real software updates so not sure;

1) Boot up time Doubled and this extra time is black screen before XP desktop
2) 2nd CD Drive comes up "Insert CD" even when cd in, in XP, its seen in BIOS + XP (drive that is)
3) AVG Now comes up with "Not being able to communicate" and crashes PC for 2/3 minutes until I cease process
4) HDD Searching for a few minutes continually every 10 minutes

Right so any ideas? I will do a full wipe and reinstall but no point in doing that if its the HDD, ram or mobo?

I had the first problem when I fiddled with memory (ram) if I remembered correctly. did you fiddled with your pc recently? installed any softwares, did any tweaks?

None at all, all i have done is normal downloads (vids mainly) and I have checked all the cables

What would I suggest you is in fact a full clean install of the operating system. I have pretty much experienced most of the problems that you have listed before and so far they have all been fixed by a clean install/format of the harddisk. Although I could be wrong here, but system tend to slow down and act up after you use pc for a long period of time. When was the last time you had a clean install of windows?

Well not it speeds up after the first 10 minutes and thenjust stops dead a few hours later after a lot of simcity 4 action

And this install is about 2.5 years old

Definitely do a full install. If you have spare time I would suggest you clean your pc up for dust too. Kind of like a fresh start and it will make your pc run cooler as well.
Go on, a new install is always something to be looking forward to :D
