Serious HELP REQUIRED PLEASE!

Hi guys I am experiencing some issues with a mobo connector:

On the motherboard there is a 4-pin connector for the heatsink however it appears to be dead as I have tried using the power fan connector and my heatink starts spinning. Is this OK to do? If I was to use the power fan connector or the chasis fan connector on the board (ALL THESE ARE 3 PIN) will it cause complications using these as oppose to the heatsink connector. Have to use alternative as my heatsink connector is not working.

Hey Pikkon

This is perfectly fine to do. The 4th pin is for controlling fan speeds noteable for "SmartFan" and other variations. You'll loose this feature of course since you're plugging it into the 3 pin but you can maybe think about investing in a Zalman Fan Mate to help out with noise/fan speed. You'll not get any complications using a 3 pin header with a 4 pin connector.

the motherboard dynamically controlls fanspeed on the CPU header (the 4pin one) according with CPU usage. it doesn't turn on on mine untill about 1/2 way through booting to windows.
