Can anyone recommend a decent nanny/spy cam that has good picture quality? Preferably something with built in storage or the ability to write to something portable, motion detection a bonus. A vulnerable elderly relative has had thousands of pounds taken out of his safe by one of the myriad carers who come to his house four times every day to feed and wash him etc.

Police have attended and recorded it as a burglary, but they've suggested we install a camera and they say nothing about it to the care company for now. Their thinking is, if they approach the care company all they'll get is blanket denials, and then they'll never find a culprit. They've had us empty the safe to a different address, and the plan is to capture whomever it is opening the (now empty) safe and the police will take it from there.

Can anyone recommend anything decent, or at least a trustworthy place to start looking? Obviously any old thing from any random tat retailer would 'do' but we want something reliable with good picture quality for obvious reasons. TIA.

Eufy do subscription-free WiFi cameras with a base for storage that you connect to the router without breaking the bank. Will also be useful for welfare check in general assuming family member doesn't mind. I'm not sure if they do continuous recording however as the base station isn't huge capacity but might be a start. Also may not be very discreet.

Sorry to hear about your difficulties. Although it's not exactly small, maybe look at a Ring camera and hide it in some way. They are battery powered, motion activated, notify your phone, upload to the cloud and some have night vision. I love my Ring doorbell but there are internal camera versions.

Thanks everyone, you've given me a place to start looking. The TP-Link Kasa Spot looks decent (it's basically their version of the Eufy) and it's half price atm. I'll keep on looking.

It does look like the eufy camera that doesn't record to storage .
Does the tplink one record to an SD card?
Looks like it's subscription cloud storage?
Factor that into your cost, makesure the quality is still good etc.
