EDIT// I've now read the thread in mobile phones and the iphone sticky here....//

Right.. I know this will probably get moved - but I'm asking this in the mac forum, as y'all know what you're talking about!

I was thinking - seeing as the 8gb iphone is down to £169 whether it might be worth picking one up.

My problem is my current o2 contract which already costs me £35 has until november to run....so any upgrade incentive wouldnt be due until september at the earliest...and its unlikely I'd even get one judging on other peoples experience...

I dont want to miss the iphone train and going on past experience i always end up getting something just after its hayday! (not that I'm saying the iphone is standing still..)

Should I buy one? Obv I'm gonna have to jailbreak it to use my current simcard...and I'll re-read the sticky for more info - but is it relatively simple to do?

Any info/advice gratefully received!

I'm pretty in the dark about the iphone!

Tom :)

Yes, simply simple.

Do it, you won't regret it.

Then move to a simplicity tariff when your current one runs out.

Yes, thanks! :)

Give us a shout when you've got your iPhone and we can all help if you're stuck with anything.

Sorry to bump like a scumbag... but i've asked a few questions in mobile phones to clarify and got myself even more confused!

I'm currently on an o2 £35 a month jobby for 600 minutes and 1000 texts..

Obv I want to be able to use the iphone on t'internet... am I best to buy the bolt on... I'm just bearing in mind that 400mb is not really a lot for a month?? what d'ya reckon??

Cheers all! :)

Do you use all those minutes and texts? Maybe try and do a deal to drop them a bit to get free internet?

Where did you get 400mb from?

I think i saw it somewhere.. probably completely wrong!

I'll be in liverpool in about 15 mins so i'll be going straight to the shop!

Do you think its more or less? 'cos I just phoned cpw customer service and the bloke said it was 50gb for £7.50  thinkin thats wrong!

A small thread hijack because I'm in the same situation and can't change my contract for another few months.

What happens if you buy an iPhone, jailbreak it to use with an existing SIM card, then something goes wrong down the line and you need to return it? Surely if you restore it with itunes it won't be activated again and the shop is going to know and therefore not replace it? And if it's taken in jailbroken they're going to notice that too.

I'm assuming any mucking around with the firmware will void warranty??

But then again - to be fair, before I knew that I could switch my contract thingy I was well up for jailbreaking and dealing with the consequences!

Might be worth waiting for the genius squad.... i think justin is on holiday but evh will probs have the answer :)

Hope it all works out... i'm just gutted 'cos i refuse to activate it until i get a case... so off to the apple store for me...

You can fully restore an iPhone to a factory fresh state using iTunes.

You do this by clicking "restore" (obviously) and waiting for 5 minutes while the default firmware is re-loaded back to the phone.

As Raymond Lin has already said, so long as the iPhone isn't running Bootloader 3.9 then it would be completely untraceable. For what it's worth, 02 have never checked anything other than the iPhone is intact (in that it turns on) and that all the accessories are present, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Man, not sure where I've been but with the new price reduction, it's so darn tempting to buy one - but I've still got another 8 months contract with T-mobile... :/

How "stable" is the iPhone after fully jail broke with ziPhone? What "major features" of an iPhone is buggy or rendered useless for say a T-Mobile Flex user?

/sorry, hijacking the thread, saves creating another iPhone thread...

As stable as it is before it's jailbroken :)

I use it on FLEXT with W&W. Couldn't be without it now.

I'm off to buy an iPhone now! :D

Hopefully i will have it unlocked/jailbroken very quickly as i get impatient :p

Anyways.. off i go :)
