Computer has really been playing up lately just ran adaware and about 80trojans have been found, they have managed to close my firewall and now will not let me even open it again, just causing it to crash the second i click on it

I have my windows install, along with a few other programs on my C: partition and all my games and everything else on my D: partition

Can i just completly wipe windows and start agin without having to install all my games and everything again or not?

Really have no idea how this has happened but i just want to start a fresh, just dont want to lose everything i have installed as it is very time consuming

with regards to your games - I think you'll probably have to re-install them after the OS install, but then you can just copy the old folders over where you've just installed them to set back your saved games / settings, etc...

ended up just doing a full reinstall. got the laptop for anything i need in the next few hours

just dont understand how it was so swamped with trojans

do you have a router? (if not, get one)
were you opening files called keygen.exe? (don't do this)

i dont use IE i have always used firefox

i wouldnt use any kind of keygen what so ever, i dont trust them as they do things like this

now trying to reinstall windows on the computer using a windows disk i got about 2 weeks ago and have not yet used for an install and am getting errors that certain files cannot be copied, one of which being explorer.exe

any ideas lads?

is the cd clean?

is it an original? or is it a copy that the files may have been corruped before burning? (careful how u answer this.... copies frowned upon)

is it possible there may be hard drive problems? tried scandisk etc?

did you format or try to reinstall over the top of the old install?

well its got past where it was last time, couldnt do mshtml.dll this time but just skipped it as i found i can just download that, if i even knew what it did and wether i needed it

setup all done now so fingers crossed i can get things sorted

back into windows now and things still seem wierd

installing drivers and explorer has already stopped responding apparantly

getting worried and quite upset now as its a new build and really cant afford to spend anything else on it :(

Take it that you have downloaded it?

Had to reformat again

is now stopping at 66% everytime saying it cannot copy AcGenral.dll

What could have gone wrong with the memory/hdd/psu they are all brand new parts from ocuk no more than a month old? :(

Any chance the windows disk is faulty?

This is the first time i am actually setting windows up on it, last time i had lent a mates until mine had come through and then put my code in so it registered it to me?

cheers for the help guys this is really getting me down now nothing seems to be going right

dont have another drive unfortunatly, have installed a number of games the past couple of games HL2 being one of them just a couple of days ago so dont really see it being the DVD drive

going to try someone else disc again and then put my code in if it lets me get that far, will report back soon...
