ok as always seams to happen to me, I got a new 500gb sata2 hd, nice, pretty, fast, and quiet. Well chuffed. Filled it up and such over last week ro so happily. Went to bed last night, wake up this morning and its bloody erased itself. Its now sitting there as nice unallocated space.

Basically my plea is for a program to fix this, and give me back all the data on it. Its not been formatted or anything so everythings still there. Just needs the FAT fixed so all the files reappear.

you may need to do a disk check on the drive, it should hopefully rebuild the filesystem for you. your windows operating system disk may have a repair facility which can do a disk check or if you can use another computer and make a boot disk you may want to try this http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/

the problem with that is scanning it requires a drive letter, which requires a format. I dont want to put the data in any risk

So this new 500g drive is that a seperate one from windows or is that everything? The reason why I ask is that the program I use runs from windows. You might need one that runs from a boot disk. If thats the case you need some where to store the data to.

no its seperate. the boot disk never has much on cept windows and progs. this 500gb is a pure storage drive. Although I did put my game son it to run faster... now I am very bored

Ok you can search the web for free data recovery apps (theres loads of them), but they only allow (very) small files to retreived. Your best bet is to buy one of them they are not very expensive (£20+).
First of get the trial ones first and see which one works best then buy it.
I lost all my data cause windows would not boot up. So I went in from scratch and formated (not thinking) managed to get all my photos back and music to.

I tried those data recovery progs, they are mostly crap. Got about 10 of em. I am looking for something heavier duty. One that could rebuild an un-reformatted hd from scratch. I mean all the files are there untouched, even if there is about 400gb of them. If the space is unallocated so ar then theres no formatting on it, so the original file system and boot record should be intact.

Samsung.

Trying Active File Recovery atm. It seams a good program. Scanning the drive for partitions to recover atm. Takes about 2 hours.

is there a specific reason you cannot do a disk check on the drive?
i had this EXACT problem once and a disk check sorted it all.
also please try the link, its a recovery disk that could help you if you don't have one.
