Hi guys,

Just got a reply back from Gigabytes warranty service telling me that they see no problem at all with the 16x slot on my motherboard. They've proved this with photos and screenshots of it being stable for an hour under a burn in test.

The thing is, the card works no problem at all in the 8x slot (Other than slight artifacting now and again), but if I put it in my 16x slot it causes my PC to BSOD and after the drivers crashing constantly.

What else could be causing this dya think? I'll be getting my motherboard back soon to test futher and see if I can find out but just need a bit of direction now.

Thanks :)

ask gigabyte the same question? ask them for guidance / next steps to take to try and diagnose the problem, its clearly another component.

The process of elimination begins.....

ask them what memory and power supply they tested it with, gigabyte boards are picky when it comes to psu so it could be that

Yeah I think this is more-than-likely a gpu problem. Can you try it in another computer? Got another card to try in your MB?

I've got a Gigabyte 7950 Windforce 3gb.

I've asked them as well in an email, but how long it takes them to respond I don't know. :(

I'm not sure if it is the GPU or not as the same issue happens with my brothers 7850.

The memory used by them is Corsair XMS3, 16gb in total populating all slots.
Can't see what the power supply is from the photo. Looks like OCZ to me but I'm not 100% certain.

ocz are known to have problems with gigabyte boards, was well noted on x58 systems idk on z68/z77

it usually takes 2 to 3 days to get a reply, quicker if they reply from the uk

Board was sent to MK, which is about 45 minutes from myself.

My PSU is an XFX. The one they look to have used looks like it's OCZ.

it isnt psu then,im using xfx myself on a z77x up4 th board

what bios did they test with and memory?

F8

They're going to test it with the same card as myself on Friday as that is when one is due in. If it isn't faulty then they said they will send it back so I'll have it by Monday.

Any other ideas? :(

idk,you can try with the power control slider in ccc/overdrive settings set to 20% see if that helps,it adds no voltage but raises the thermal limit of the card

another thing to try is by setting the pcie/peg to gen2 and see if that stops the freezing

EDIT: idk what board you have?

try with bclk set to 100
cpu voltage response set to fast
enable x.m.p for your memory if it supports it,all of that helps with stability whether oc or not

Tested my graphics card yesterday again in my brothers PC. Works flawlessly.

I have an idea what it could be, might be a long shot, but does this sound possible at all?

I'm thinking now it could be the power supply. I'm going to test it tonight my in brothers PC. I'm thinking that the PCI 6 pin cables, either one or both, could be faulty. Perhaps they're losing power and making the graphics card not get the necessary power to be supplied to it, causing the crashes which lead to BSOD.

Just a theory, sound likely?

You never know mate, worth a try but if it were your power supply im sure it would affect the whole system not just the graphics card.
