Just been handed a ZyXEL P-600 to replace an old Netgear DG834G

Anyway, to minimise disruption I planned on configuring the modem using a local PC, then swapping it out.

However, you cannot configure the thing without going through a wizard.. and that wizard will only proceed on an active DSL connection

Surely there must be a way to manually configure this thing?

Presumably this is a Prestige P600 router? If so, yes there is a way but I haven't got one handy to check it for you. Sorry, not much use here :)

I have had awful issues with Thomson routers in the past that did exactly this, refused point blank to configure, regardless of what even the web interface was reporting, unless the ADSL link had been up.

Right, sorted it (sorry to bump thread).

When you log in to the web configurator a 4 character pre-filled password is present. Do NOT use this. For some unknown reason this password sends you to a "look but don't touch" world of pain. You can see the router status.. and that's it!.

Using the default password "1234" enabled me to configure it without issue :o:cool:

Why they chose a 4 character pre-defined field when the default password is also 4 characters is complete balls.
