Came in to work this morning to find out that all of my macs couldn't connect to the win2k3 file server, everybody could ping its FQDN which is how they connect and all of the PC users could get on there fine but smb just wouldn't work.

I couldn't figure out what was going on so I rebooted the server and that seems to have resolved it for now but that is not a solution.

Does anyone have much experience linking up macs (10.5/10.6) to a windows network and encountered anything like this? Are there any points people can show me?

I've also been setting up a secondary subnet for my server monitoring so I added a second IP to the teamed NICS I have in the file server, could this have caused it?

Nope, its a windows file server running nothing fancy at all, it's fine 99% of the time but it just fell over and I'm beginning to think it was my ip addition that caused it but I don't really understand why, having said that according to the staff it has done it before so perhaps not, it's difficult to say as I haven't been there long enough yet to see it in action, maybe i'll add the 2nd ip and see if it kills it again.

It has a teamed nic and I just dropped a 2nd IP on to there, I know there were some registry changes done by the previous administrator to sort out the mac browsing initially but I don't see why it would affect the mac browsing as the original IP is still in place, very strange indeed!
