Just snatching Server 2008 RTM off works MSDN, gonna try it as the main OS my rig. I;ve read a few guides online about how to get it running as a desktop with the vista look. Has anyone tried this? If so, how's it going?

I work as a software developer and Hyper V looks outstanding. Plus it is coletely odulr and i have read claims that it is up to 10% quicker than Vista for doing the same task. Although they share the same kernel (Vista Sp1 i mean here)?!

If you want it for dev reasons install it in a VM, there is absolutely no point using it as a normal desktop OS.

I'm very dubious about any performance claims, so I would take a pinch of salt with that.

Haven't tried it myself, but reports are that its very good.

Seeing as you're getting it free, then I don't see any reason not to give it a try.

it shouldn't be noticably faster than vista

i can understand people using 2003 as a desktop os instead of xp (because of the newer kernal) but 2008 and Vista Sp1 use the same one
