Server 2008 quota emails

Hi

In Server 2008 you can specify a SMTP server to use to send out automated quota exceeded emails etc. Out SMTP server requires a username/password but the only box I can see in Server 2008 is to specify just the server name/IP.

How can I use our SMTP server?

Could you setup SMTP on the 2008 server, set it to allow unauthenticated incoming email and relay from it's own IP and set it's forwarding smart host with the required destination SMTP server + authentication?
