Hi guys

I have recently got a Windows Home Server Running 2008 r2

Am guessing you need an antivirus program on servers also, if so? Which one should I get??

Heard that free antivirus software doesn't work with server os, so if I need one can someone recommend one.

I don't mind paying, just don't really want to spend £100's on one, can anyone recommend which to get?

Cheers hay

If it is just for home use, any of the free ones - MSE, Avira etc, will do. Though I suspect many free versions will not run on server platforms.

For paid for products, Kaspersky and ESET are worth looking at and neither should break the bank.

90% of our clients at work use Trend Micro. I personally have no idea if it's actually any good though.

Yes, server 2008 r2, what version with what number of clients? How much did it cost you?
I am in the OS market and am wondering your details.

Number of clients? I don't think he's set up a terminal server just for home use mate.

You can find pricing information for terminal services licenses from the Internet. :)

The OP probably just has an MSDN version that his mate put on a machine for him. He isn't after site licences, etc and just wants AV.

There aren't any mainstream AV products for server that I have come across. Doesn't mean they don't exist though! Most of the business AV products would be overkill!

Even if he somehow got a Retail version, it still comes with 5 CALs anyway, more than enough for home use.

If a friend sets up an MSDN version for you, 'for home use' surely thats breaching licence agreements?
Am i missing something here?

We do not know the OPs circumstances, so it is somewhat irrelevant to his question. However, if he was using it at home it might be a breach of the license. I know, for example, that the Technet licenses can be used at home as they are not considered a production environment - unless of course you are running a business/organization from there.

I imagine MSDN has the same grey area!

That would possibly mean a breach in a license agreement, except the OP never stated his license. Could have been set up under the Dreamspark program perhaps which does have 'home use' under its context?
