Server 2012 Essentials - email notifications

Hi All,

I've sold one of my microsevers to my Dad which has server 2012 Essentials. He's trying to set up email notifications through the dashboard, something I've never done. He's getting an unable to contact SMTP server error when testing. I've tried it too and getting the same on a fresh install of Essentials.

I've tried several provoders but still can't get anywhere. Here's a typical log entry:

Any ideas?

Does his ISP block port 25 outbound?

Try a test from the Telnet client at a command prompt.

Mine doesn't, and I'm having the same issue. I have just tried it on two machines here, one gets a response and one doesn't - the one that doesn't being the essentials one, so it looks like something within the default config of essentials is the issue?

Hmm, disabled one of the NICs on mine and it now works. My Dad's only has the one NIC so can't do that on that one!
