ok, so i have a trial of server 2012 essentials running and use my server for file storage, backups and plex media server. the thing is, i dont want it on 24/7.
i have my laptop (which i use at home on same network as the server and at work connecting to server with remote desktop), raspberry pi, nowtv box (with plex on) and a desktop running plex (aswell as backup and accessing the server folders).
the way i have it setup now is with plex media server running as a service so i dont need to login on restarts and automatic backups on friday evenings. what i would like is to enable WOL (possibly with over internet capability but thats not essential) so that when i go to access a file, run a plex client or friday evening when its backup time the server wakes up. and maybe have it go to sleep with 10mins of inactivity.
i have set sleep for 10mins and enabled the WOL stuff (not ticking the only wake with magic packets) but the machine wont sleep (unless i press the power button) and only wakes up if i press a key on keyboard. what am i doing wrong? would i be better going back to whs2011 (never tried the sleep stuff with that as i didnt think of it when i was running it and my 2008 R2 wouldnt sleep as i couldnt get the gfx drivers to work properly)
