I was running a small home PC with server 2003 on it, which was controlling a software dynamic disc (raid5) for data storage.

Having focused so much on the data storage array I overlooked the importance of the OS drive. Last week this became my first ever drive to fail and now the storage drives show up as a foreign disks in the new OS disk management.

I can't seem to find anything on how to reconstruct the array by just telling it what used to be there.

Is there a way to configure the OS remember the raid array/dynamic disk without spending $250 on a 3rd party reconstruction program??

Any help or advice appreciated on this one as there were over 25,000 photos on that volume.

Okay, how many disks did you have? Were all of these disks in the Raid 5? Did you have some of the disks in another RAID?

Most people have their O/S on a RAID 1 (mirrored and their data disks on RAID 5.

Unfortunately I wasn't smart enough to raid the OS. I had one IDE disk running the OS and 4 SATA disks in the raid 5 array for storage. All were connected direct to the mobo.
