We're currently running Avast on our 2003 servers and we're just about to upgrade to 2008 R2. From reading up it looks like Avast doesn't seem to play well with 2008, especially on SQL which is a major problem for me.

What AV solutions are people using on their servers? I need something that will provide good protection without slow down on file server, Exchange 2010, SQL 2008 and Terminal Services.

You would need to check for SQL compatability.
However we use the Sophos system.
It integrates into AD so well and is just so easy to setup and manage.

We moved from Symantec EndPoint to Sophos Endpoint and have been very pleased with the move.

Sophos is a beautiful product. Awesome control centre and very easy to update.

Sophos.

End of.

If you want to budget less, SBE is pretty much the full on Enterprise product without all of the control and while a re-seller might tell you it does not scale as well as Enterprise and you should not use it in a larger environment, it will and you can ;)

we are running Trend Micro Officescan on all our workstations and servers. Not really had any problems with and we get it for free :-)

Symantec Endpoint Protection used by my employer.

Couldn't comment on protection/speed tho.

Doesn't cover well against webbased 'virus antivirus' style attacks.
We've this at work, and I find it poor at best.

Actually sweep the system with MWB once per month now to check for rubbish.
One of the machines in work was left unable to work after someone visited gumtree and 'thinkpoint antivirus' got installed.
MWB got rid of it, eventually, but it was a complete mess.

Avoid Endpoint and Kaspersky (business space) imo, going to move to Sophos when our renewal comes up as it seems very highly regarded.

Has anyone used the Sophos MSP "version"? I had some stuff through about it this week and it sounded good but I don't how good the management tools are.

ESET NOD32

All AV ime slows down fileservers when ondemand scanning and associated options are enable.

Although I use Eset NOD32 on my home PC's I cannot recommend it for the corporate environment.
The management interface is nowhere near as good or as intuitive as others out there.
You don't want a solution that takes away loads of time having to be "baby sat" or constantly tweaked, new packages sent out etc.

I trialled Eset for a month before going the Sophos route - it just couldn't compare.

Yep. The management interface was seemingly designed by monkeys on LSD. So was the interface for Backupexec, but lets not go there either.

we use Eset in our company, the admin console server side is a pain the in arse to get configured properly.......but in terms of virus protection i have no complaints...........and the systems overhead is excellent compared to symantec.

Having a complete nightmare with Sophos clients controlled with Enterprise Console at the moment.... nearly 2500+ machines and another 1600 to come onboard soon.

Niggly performance issues on about 10% of the clients that we're liaising with Sophos support about. I think it's a duff build from a poor outside contractor that's caused the problem.

All said though, I'd get Sophos again and again and.... well, you get the idea.

The reseller we've just used for renewal (another 3 years) was great, we've got a direct line into their support team for above mentioned niggles at the mo, plus excellent support for bringing the other 1600+ into the fold using a roaming Enterprise Console running on a VM that's being carted around on a laptop. Also helped them root out a nasty bug in 9.5.x client that'll sting a good number of people.

The only thing I'd say that because of the diversity of our environment, is that the HIPS function needs a fair bit of TLC ongoing, but that's part of the fun to be honest!

Server-wise, we've about 250 servers currently, with another 150+ to be brought into the fold as with the additional workstations. To get all of this working with upwards of 200 sites has taken some pretty hairy work with HTTP and SMB repositories and through of this, their support has been first class.

Sophos is a slam-dunk really.

just my ten pence though!
