I'm getting back into on-line gaming after a few years away and was wondering what server browsers people are using these days? I used to use Gamespy 3D and ASE - having a quick Google it looks like ASE is now part of Gamespy?

I'm playing COD4, TF2 and ET:QW - and the in-game browsers are slow and rubbish and driving me nuts. I'm also using X-Fire but it just seems clumsy and/or fiddly for browsing servers. I just want something fast and simple.

Ta.

I think Qtracker is probably the best you'll get IMO: http://www.qtracker.com/

You can set it up so when you double click a server it'll start the game and join the server for you, you can also set favourites etc. Brilliant program.

Game-Monitor.com is also pretty good, but you won't be able to get information such as your ping to the server from it.

That looks like just what I want. Unfortunately, I installed it and it doesn't seem to work - I just get "there are no items to display" in the server list. I've tried messing with the filters, firewall, everything. It says it's refreshing thousands of servers, but when it's done nothing actually appears

The best thing about ASE back in the day was when you could click a server and if it was full it would keep querying it for you and then auto join as soon as their was a slot. Fantastic feature that was.

Sounds a lot like a filter is messing up as it's finding the servers just not displaying them.

Maybe try reinstall double checking the filters. For me default has always brought up a list of thousands of servers, I have to use the filters to get servers with specific pings etc.

Have you tried a different game with the program?
