Server crashes - check Asetek liquid cooling working?

I hope this is the right forum.


My server is crashing and I am looking for advice.

I bought this in 2017 (see configuration at end) and it has worked reasonably well until now.

There was a power cut a few days ago and I think this may have caused the problem.

The machine boots. There is enough time to sign in and do a few minutes work and then it freezes. It then shuts down after half an hour.

I managed to get a look at the event logs and saw this likely problem:

Microsoft-Windows-WHEA-Logger Event ID 16 - A fatal hardware error has occurred. - Component: PCI Express Root Port - Error Source: Boot

I wondered whether the NVMe drives had some problem.

I managed to open the BIOS and just happened to notice the CPU temperature was 96.7 Centigrade (206 Fahrenheit). This looks to me like overheating.

I’ve opened up the box and wondered whether there might be a problem with the Asetek liquid cooling (https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ocuk...-liquid-cooling-upgrade-bundle-bu-098-tl.html). However, I am not sure how to check whether it is working – there are no visible moving parts.

Look for rpm speed in the bios?
Assuming it stays on long enough
Or just put your finger on top of the pump
You should feel vibration

1490rpm is probably approx 50% of what it can do
Should still be enough though
Perhaps the thermal paste has dried out
