Hey Peoples,

Just started at my new job today and they don't use domains, or AD.

This in itself wouldn't be bad, except they actually do have an NT4 PDC and BDC, but don't use them to put machines on/into.

They have about 80 Citrix servers, running in workgroup mode with local accounts.

Their workstations logon using local accounts.

They've no definitive list of servers in their estate.

Batch files for drive mappings have the passwords and logons in plain text.

I want to do a estate scan to see what servers they have, and what OS they have installed, so I can see what we will do about managing the whole lot and see whether we create a 2K/2K3 AD in mixed mode before elimitating the NT4 machines or stick with the NT4 domain for now and migrate later.

I've been using Solarwinds to do a ping scan of network subnets then filtering for windows machines and will examine it in Excel, as we've got it already, but they must be an easier way.

One of my friends suggested NEWT (http://www.komododigital.com/), so I'm going to give the free app a go, but was wondering if anyone has any other ideas about anything better?

Pax
