Server for Hosting and Lan parties?

Hi, just looking around on the flea market, i might have around £90 to spend on a server to have a play with, just wondering if this would be any good for file hosting, game server hosting for 8 people etc

so as a comparison, what am i looking for in a desktop machine, bearing in mind the desktop system in thinking of is lowest of the low, the price is almost double already...

i know noise and power consumption is loud and big on the rackmount stuff, but is the sacrifice worth it for the loss of a dual cpu set up, with raid drives etc? for something so basic.
