Ok, My open source project needs a dedicated server as its linked to the internet and uses Python/Apache but I can have php on the server too.

The project is: https://launchpad.net/hypernucleus-project

I can get one with 1GB of ram and 250Gb hard drive for £20 a mo and I was wondering if some of you would like to share it with me and split the cost. I am a uni student so I am trying to keep costs down.
Its a high quality server in France.

I don't mind what you use the hosting for but save some server resources for me :)
I am a very relaxed admin and I am not strict, you can have the server configured to your needs.

I plan to run Ubuntu Server 8.04 on it.

Reply if you are interested or have questions, more interest means less cost for each of you.

Have you got a link to the hosting company's website and the package you're looking at?
I'm interested just as a general purpose box to play about on and serve games/PHP and other stuff. I potentially might end up using quite a lot of network bandwidth too though.

Cheers.

Bandwidth is unlimited i believe. some game servers can be pretty hard on the cpu.

I was thinking of the £20 one but can go for a higher package if need be.

Looks like a good deal.

A 1.2Ghz celeron should be fine for what I need. I wasn't thinking of using anything particularly CPU intensive, just openTTD, maybe a vent/TS server.

If more people are interested then maybe we could look at the £29.99/mo one.

Can I suggest using debian instead of ubuntu? It's almost exactly the same as ubuntu in terms of how it works but is free of most of the bloat. That is unless you're absolutely dead set on ubuntu. Just thinking about overheads with such a low spec CPU is all.

Cheers.

Potentially interested here too, would prefer to keep the costs down though, so the £20 split between four would be good? A little concerned at the bandwidth limitations looks like it's a 200GB PM cap?

2Tb a month I think? And only on upstream traffic.

I split with a uni friend now. Can close thread if want... or someone else can split in this thread. i.e. russ0r and dangerstat.
