Over the Xmas/NewYear period, I gave myself a nice little treat and I have upgrade my Server from a 2 to 4 CPU setup.
The older Mobo only takes 2 CPUs and I just bought a couple of CPUs for that. They are Opteron 6172 CPUs while the Quad are Opteron 6830
Side note, but how the hell have I just bought 2x6830 and 2x6172 CPUs PLUS a 4 CPU Mobo for less than I paid for ONE 6830 only 2 years ago? - Are they truly this worthless? LOL
Anyway, the issue I am having, is simply that I cannot get the older system to access its HDs at anything even close to a good speed.
The setup is this :-
SuperMicro H8DG6-F
2xOpteron 6172 CPUs
16 x 8GB RAM
C: = Kingston 120GB SSD
D: = 2TB WD BLACK
Windows 10 64Bit
Now, Im setting it up for a mate, he is sorting out my cars, and so Im giving him this, fair trade I recon.
When I used it, I had no issues with it... It ran a treat and it accessed the HDs just peachy, but, I just cannot get this sorted???
I myself used Linux on it and I have put Windows 8.1 too, to try it out, and I never had any issues with it being slow, but my mate has asked me to put Windows 10 onto it, and this is what may be the issue? - I dont see why, but there is nothing else I can think of?
As an example of what its doing, if I am copying files over to it across the LAN, it jerks and pharts and if I am doing anything with it, then that stutters badly too! - Playing music with WinAmp, or Playing a video with VLC or even trying to pla ya basic game, becomes impossible to play until the copying stops.
If I try to cancel the copy, it ignores me and then becomes unresponsive until it completes the copy.
It also does this if I copy from a USB FlashDrive, or even from its own HD, and I have tried a few various drives and installed a few various Chipset drivers... Its AMD based of course.
I just cannot solve it?
Any clues?
