Server/pc combo

Hi folks, my pc is about to go, and i'm stuck between 2 choices:-

#1

Build a new rig

#2

Build a quiet server(24/7 media streaming, silent etc)
Buy a laptop.

I dont game much anymore, and what I do is on the ps3/360, so i am swaying for the latter.

I am however undecided between going for a low power efficient server, and a beefy laptop, or do I get say the UL30A, as highly reccomended on this forum, and an efficient server with a beefier CPU, which I can remote into as of when required?

If so, I dont need a new case, as I'm sure my Thermaltake Soprano will do, and I would like at least 2TB of storage. What kind of build/combo would you reccomend?

P.S I dont have an exact budget, but i'm not going to go totally mad if the extra power is not required(so no 1000W psui's etc).

definately not the laptop option unless portability is a high priority

price per performance, upgrade-ability and heat makes desktops a much more cost efficient option

also, remoting into a server to work on is nowhere near as practical or efficient as
working directly on a pc

Perhaps go down the efficient server route with perhaps a shuttle pc? Depends what you want to do on the laptop to be quite honest.
