After upgrading my main pc I suspect the q6600 is going to be relegated to server jobs obviously il swap out the graphics card as the 8800gtx sucks juice and a) I wont need it and b) this will be on all the time so im thinking just dropping in a cheap nvidia 610

My question is by swapping in a 610 and taking out 2 of the 4 sticks what sort of power drain will this setup have and is it worth spending extra money swapping the q6600 for something else when this is costing me nothing?

Also is it worth swapping out the 8800gtx? what sort of consumption do these things have on idle?

Cheers

Other than to load the os probably not if it will boot without one in is a 680i sli board going to do that ok?

I've got my file server running without a graphics card, took it out a few months ago to test it was fine, I've left it out and it's been running like that ever since.

I just use remote desktop to do anything that needs doing directly on that computer, it works very well for me.

Yeah I agree it doesnt even have a screen attached to it, im just wondering if it will boot ok without a card plugged in

Mine does. :)

As long as you don't have to do anything with your keyboard, like select specific boot options or something, then it'll boot fine.
