Good afternoon,

just wanted to gauge an idea of what you guys use for your environmental monitoring.

Idealy i'd like to monitor

Room Tempreture
Flood
Smoke
 
APC have a few solutions which talk SNMP - probably a good first port of call. Personally we just monitor internal temp in all the servers, average the values for the rack and alert if it goes a given percentage beyond the average. Save dedicated monitoring kit. Flood and smoke we let the datacenter worry about...
 
I have been looking at the APC netbotz range, I'd like somthing that also has the ability to send sms messages, without using email to sms services.

any other providers I can look into, most of the companys I seem to find selling this type of stuff I've never heard of!
 
We use itagg to send our SMS alerts as required. Don't use it much any more as it makes more sense to just give people a blackberry and email alerts usually...

That said, they're reliable and I have no major complaints.
 
small, and the building its in is not manned 24/7 hence the need for some sort of enviromental monitoring alert, prefrebably one that could still send sms's messages without relying on the network its pluged in to
