Hi,

Does anyone know a upto date and reliable website or journal that has stats on the usage of server side languages. I have had a google about and not found anything usefull

TIA

i dont but... i would imagine it would be somthing like

PHP (rules the world pretty much)
ASP.net (big companies like it cus bill says so)
RoR
Java
classic asp (seriously dead, no new builds)

Prob gonna be slaughtered for the above but thats my understanding atm

I'm not sure it's something that anyone has really tracked and having done a spot of googling, I couldn't find anything meaningful either.

Without any figures it's impossible to say for sure, but I'd guess PHP and ASP.NET are probably the 2 most commonly used techs at the moment.

Also, even though classic ASP 3.0 might be considered "dead" due to it's age, I certainly see quite a few major sites, including my own banks website using asp, and these sites have certainly been built a long time since .NET came on the scene in about 2000/2001?

And to add to the server side tech list, there's also Coldfusion from Adobe (formelry Macromedia), although the number of sites I've ever visited that I've noticed using it I could count on the fingers of 1 hand.

Well the question i have to answer is how popular is coldfusion? I know from experience that its not overly popular, with PHP,JAVA and that been the most popular. But im trying to find some statistics to back this up.

TBH ColdFusion is pretty much dead. It was pretty crap when it was new which was why it was easily bested by PHP and ASP.

As an example, on jobserve there is one developer position for coldfusion within 25 miles of me, whereas PHP has 17 and ASP.NET has 35.

Not the best indicator, but about as good as I think you're going to get.
