Server sound mods make me QQ

Does anyone else get really REALLY annoyed with server mods?

Now some mods I have no problem with if they are listed in the server name, something like 'bigBagsServer with Extra blood' is fine, I know what I am signing up for right from the off. What I hate is joining a CS server and all I hear is 'Headshot!' 'Unstoppable' and all other rubbish, which for me, breaks the spell and emersion of the game.

I really worry that Left 4 Dead will descend into a mess of weird sound clips and laser beams shooting from guns when headshots are scored, I really hate this! What worse, it takes 5 min’s to download all this rubbish before I get to play, which is a pain when your server hopping looking for a new crowd to play with.

Is it hard for there to be a vanilla option as part of steam? Something that refuses to download these sounds and given the vanilla experience on all servers? If so, why doesn’t it exist! And if it does, tell me where because if I join one more server with some crazy doctor laugh every time I am killed I will put a kitten in a microwave!
 
Is that true? There's nothing more annoying than joining a server and having to wait for 150 mp3's to download before you can play. I usually just count to 10 and if they haven't finished, join another server.
 
Yeah, it works on CSS atleast, just type it into the console or if you want it to work constantly you will need to put it in your autoexec.cfg. Also if you want to remove the sounds already downloaded just delete the sounds folder from the CSS folder.

Will you still be able to join the server? its wont kick you for not downloading it?
 
Normally you can turn auto-downloads off, but on servers that have loads of mods/addons running then you can end up having no sounds/weapons whatsoever, or some strange anomalies (like running around with a horses head in call of duty :D)

Hmm, I'm about 6 posts late. Ah well.
 
if i wanted to hear the sounds you mention - i would play the game they are off

The thing i laugh about most server sound mods is that theyre labelled as "quake" sounds when its obvious theyre out of unreal tournament. Never quite figured that one out.

Agreed. No idea why people call em quake sounds...


But the sounds completely don't fit in CSS, why so many servers have em is beyond me, if I want to hear them I'd start UT2k4...
