Hi Guys,

I wonder if you can help me? I'm looking to spec up 2 pc's to be used as server boxes.

I'd do it myself but its been a few years and a little behind on the latest hardware.

My Budgets around £600, so £300 for each. I could possibly spend a little more if needed.

Thanks, I appreciate the help.

One will be used for managing the network including several PC's, around 12 Pc's the other for data management.

you hit the nail on the head with that one.

I'll have to ask. My understanding is that one will be for files and backing up (NAS) whilst the other managing the traffic of the network using Windows Server 2003.

I can find out something more specific if this isn't enough information.

I feel I should mention is that we remote in quite a bit when out of the office etc.

We also have a communication system, a hosted PBX solution. Since its hosted externally not sure if its an issue but thought I best mention it as a assume it routes through our network.

One other question, we were thinking about having a SSD just a small one (30GB?) on the two machine perhaps just to install the OS on and anything else of importance. Would this be of benefit or overkill? How do SSD hold up being on 24/7?

Thanks for the help.

I'm thinking now just to build one. From reading around these forums I figure low power consumption and lots of ram are the key points. CPU usage is low for a fileserver/nas?
