Hi All

Looking for some guidance on a potential new server or move the infrastructure around.

We currently have ML380 G6 with 2 x x5670 processors and 96gb RAM.

It was split into two servers, a terminal server (5-8 users) and a DC.

The DC ran our SQL database for CRM (GoldVision) very low use database, 3/4 people at the most.
It also stored all our files.

It is running 2012 R2

It ran fine before we started having issues with server space, i don't know the details but basically the data never gets freed up when its deleted from the drives. Basically when the DC got full it fell over until they could delete something.
I believe drive space is the issue here not the server spec.

The DC image was taken off the server above and put on a G8 Microserver as that had plenty of drive space, you can imagine the boot up time, its dog slow. it was only ever meant to be used as a virtual machine for our CCTV and Sage Line 50.

We also have a a large buffalo NAS.

If you had limited budget what would you do?

You can upgrade the G8 MicroServer, more powerful cpu, more memory and perhaps use SSD's to solve the speed issue to a certain extent. Depends on the size of data we are talking about here?

Depends on what your budget is but you can get pretty reasonably priced g8 servers, move the RAM over. Get some new disks and perhaps just set the server up again from scratch.

I am not sure the data isn't getting freed up as you put it, perhaps you need to look at what is causing the fill up and then work out a way to reduce it. Is it some huge log files or something? if so, perhaps a python or powershell script to frequently run and clean those down.
