Hi

If I was to purchase a server could I install a graphics card, sound card and Vista for example in the machine, just curious as to hw feasable it is to use the server for a similar use as a PC as well as its intended use?

Thanks

A server just means it serves a client. Its just a word. You could run server software on your PC to access as a client on the very same PC.

Modern PCs are so powerful that you can be doing normal tasks while oter people are accessing your machine, espcially applicable given the use of multi-core processors.

(Have I misinterpreted your question?)

Yup, you can do anything you like just the same, its just server boards are usually more expensive, have better features such as 64-bit PCI-X slots, multiple RAID onboard, multi processor support etc. I dont know about overclocking on them though.

Most server boards don't lend themselves to overclocking as the server requires to be stable as possible. I'm currently using the system in my sig for my server needs and to game on, although i'm in dire need of a new graphics card. I can up the FSB on the board but am limited to my max OC as i cannot adjust the Vcore.

So general advice would seem that getting a powerful, quad core for example, PC as opposed to a server would be a better option than a server machine as it would have all the work requirements and be able to be overclocked/used for games and the like? Am I correct?
