Hi,

I wanna try and learn about servers, those used at work, small to start then going into big...

like whether to use microsoft small business server or microsoft server 2003 and the differences etc etc , where to apply them , so on and so forth..

where could I try learning the basics? could you recommend any ebooks or sites?

thanks in advance..

What do you actully want to do? servers can do MANY different things, and different things use different software/hardware. You may find books that teach the ins and outs of some of microsoft server operating systems, but chances are they wont teach anything beyond how to get the OS running and working since it would be just too much for a single book to cover everything that a server can do.

my advice, pick a subject you want to learn and it shouldnt be too hard to find a beginders guide to webhosting or whatever. Also, unless you are willing to buy a machine to test the stuff on, or you are allowed access to the machines at your work, its unlikely you will be able to take the learning too far as the best learning experience is hands on with the server.

VMWare + 180 Day Evaluation of Windows SBS Server 2003 + a few VMWare XP Clients = the chance to practice with 2003 Server, RRAS, ISA, IIS, Exchange, SharePoint and finally Windows Fax Services! Phew
