been having problems with my Mid 2009 MBP lately, the battery is shot am sure of it getting less than 2 hours battery with light use and when out on a trip its really bad, just today (i say today it could have been sooner) i got the service battery show up checked the battery stats and the battery capacity is down to 76%, checking my service and support coverage am good until 2nd april 2013

is it time to get it to an apple store :(

Yep, just book an appointment at the Genius Bar at your nearest Apple store, it will be covered under your warranty.

Apple care doesn't cover the battery If its had more than 300 cycles, will cost £99

It's not 300 cycles, basically if battery is under 1000 cycles and falls under 80% of it's original capacity then you'll be able to have it replaced under the warranty.

Your New Notebook
Your new Apple notebook features advanced battery chemistry that greatly extends the battery’s lifespan. The built-in battery of your MacBook Pro or MacBook Air is designed to deliver up to 1000 full charge and discharge cycles before it reaches 80 percent of its original capacity. In addition, Adaptive Charging reduces the wear and tear on the battery giving it a lifespan of up to 5 years. Be sure to fully charge your portable when you plug it in for the first time, and then run Software Update to ensure you have the latest software. Apple periodically releases updates that may improve battery performance.

Cheers for the info guys, this is weird now as i had the warning last night but when i have started using it this morning its gone. not sure what to make of it to be honest

I had this on a mid 2010 which is in warranty till the end of the year.

I took it to Apple on Friday and they ran some diagnostics, the guy basically said that if it shows as 'consumed', it'll be £99, else if it shows as failed it's covered.

Luckily, it showed as failed so got it replaced under warranty. Feels like a new laptop!

its 50 miles to the nearest apple store for me which is Meadowhall, yes its a straight trip down A1 but its 100miles just for a battery, can i get a new apple battery of the net and do it myself ?? this MBP has been altered any way so i might as well do the battery myself

As said above you can get it replaced under warranty as this happened to me. The warning will go and come back is it dips above and below the 80% mark. You NEED to have it below 80% when you in to the store though which is slightly annoying (unless you can convince them it has been below for a long time).

I think mine went to something stupid like 79.9% and they did it (the first time I told them it was intermittent they checked and it was above 80% so didn't change it).

Damn wish I had know this - my warranty expired last June at which point it was less than 80% health and on about 800 cycles :(

Now it is 985 cycles and 66% health - I don't suppose Apple will do anything about it?
