Afternoon software gurus. I have a small problem with Win XP service pack 2. I have a legit copy of course from my time at uni unless MS have decided to take away that lisence, eitherway it wont download through windows update but let me do countless updates before and ive never had such a problem before.

So i downloaded it through the more conventional way off the MS website and the install dies halfway through. Im currently downloading it again incase it it was corrupted or something although that sounds far too easy to be the problem.

Any ideas gentlemen?
Thanks :)

Dont know why your Pc wont let you install SP2 , but it was available free years ago on disk. I have copys of SP1 & SP2 on disk and have never had a problem installing these service packs directly from a CD. You might try to get hold of a copy on CD rather than keep downloading it fom MS and give it a try .

Have you tried installing SP2 in safe mode, i've had issues with some older motherboards and the installation of SP2, installing in safe mode worked every time.

Hope this helps!

Safe mode seems like a plan. It isnt an old mobo tho afaik, its an Abit IP35-E :boggle:
Blimin thing, wish they would just work!
Thanks guys, ill get back to you if i have more problems :)
