What do you think about service plans that are offered by some dealers?
At a recent service been offered a 2 year plan (£20/month) which will cover 2 services, checks, MOT and also a 30% discount to parts that are not covered by the plan. I am setting up my comparison spreadsheet already!

It seems that it will offset the cost easily indeed (due to cambelt change soon so good time to do it with the discount)

It depends on what the "services" cover, to be honest...

If it's just an oil and filter change, it'll be cheaper elsewhere. If it's going to the actual service schedule then it might be worth it.

I personally am on one for £15 a month of a similar arrangement. You might get other benefits too, my service plan with ford also gets me ford assist breakdown cover for UK and EU. I did read the small print and it seemed to be a higher standard than most as it included breakdown/call out at home too. It was less hassle too as i can get the dealer to collect in the morning and deliver in the afternoon from home or work. In short i think it only becomes worth it for the fluff they add around the edges

£9.57 per month for my new A4 2.0l tfsi stronic over three years. Cheaper than my A3, focus and our current fiesta is..

Check to see if there is a loyalty club for the make of car you have. Vauxhall have one 25% discount on service and repairs cars over 3 years old, 50% off MOT's. Few other perks. This works out cheaper on my insignia than the service plan.

Also check for any discount attached to your job. Often perks attached which no one ever tells you. Often company discounts too on repairs.

It also depends on the service interval required for that car. Some only require 1 service every 20,000 miles/2 years, so you may only get 1 service out of it.

Did my calculations and it doesn't seem a good deal. Having a long list of "checks" without actually replacing something substantial except from routine service items (oil, filters, fluids) doesn't cut it.
