When getting your car serviced, is it better to get it serviced to match the age of the vehicle or the mileage it's done? Mine is 6 year old but will only be coming up to 50,000 miles when it's due it's service in April.

I thought it was always whatever comes soonest within reason kinda thing.

On the whole it depends on what the service includes. Oil etc should be done on the age whereas more mechanical bits would be more mileage.

i got mine done once a year, regardless of mileage or age of car :P never owned a brand new one though

Best to use a bit of common sense as well, i do my oil, oil filter yearly but things like spark plugs and air filter i do every couple or more years depending on milage.

Cheers folks.

On a slightly related note, is it worth sticking with manufacturer servicing with an older car (6 years old) or are you better to find a good independent garage?
