Stupidly thought next service was 1000 miles time but was due 200 miles ago. Booked it in today albeit not until 2 weeks time. This would equate to just shy 1k over. Do I rebook or is this a given over the interval. This is a main dealer out of warranty on a 2.2 diesel Civic.

thread hijack:

My Z3 hasn't had a service since November 2011 when it was on 55,500 miles. (Inspection II)
It's now on 66,500 and there are two lights remaining, but I feel like I should at least change the oil?
I've topped it up with 2 litres in the past 4-5 months.

edit- actually I think it was on 58k or something as they wrote the mileage down wrong in the service book
Either way, shouldn't oil be changed every 12 months?

What are the intervals on the z3? I dont like 18 month / 2 year changes so would personally drop and change the oil+filter then have it done as normal by the dealer/whoever you take it to when its due.

I have absolutely no proof that this is substantially better for the car when the manufacturer is happy to leave it longer but for the sake of 40 quid or so and given how minging the oil normally is even by then I'll probably keep doing it with my cars

Every ~12 months or ~10,000 miles for oil and filter.

It's well documented that Audis long life servicing is utter ****e and it's not good for any engine leaving it for that time, it's only available because it's looks better on paper, aka company cars.

For reference I change mine yearly, the oil is probably ~5000 mile old.

The oil change interval on my truck is upto 74.5k miles! - Scania engines incidentally are known for reliability and an ability to rack up insane mileages - extended change intervals are not necessarily a bad thing.

Exceeding an interval on a car by ~ 1k especially when a couple of litres have been added during the interval, imo, is nothing to worry about.

Do you have a link to any of these documents from reputable technical experts?

BMW have been using a 'max 2 years' policy on oil for some time.

Helped by the fact it takes like.. 50 litres of oil!
