Hi guys, I'm at my parent's place in France atm. It's a big house so my old man thought he'd buy a Netgear WP3100RP to extend his wifi network as the broadband router wifi signal doesn't reach very far. I've had a go at setting it up this afternoon, followed the instructions carefully and connected to the *_EXT wifi network, but it's not possible to connect to the internet on this network. The Extender configuration site shows that it's connected to the existing wireless network OK.

Should I be able to ping the broadband router (192.168.1.1) on this network (device IP 192.168.1.100)? If I try I get a 'destination host unreachable' message - which indicates to me (I'm no expert) that traffic can't leave the subnet. Grateful for any help or advice.

So you've accessed http://www.mywifiext.net/ and sorted the setup there.

The link rate LED on the extender should be at least amber, preferably green.

You should be able to ping the router if the Extender has been setup to access the original Wifi network, did you set a static device IP for the extender?

I work better if I go through it step by step!

Ok so, you want to power on the extender, then connect to the Netgear EXT Wifi that the extender is emitting, once you're connected you need to go to "http://www.mywifiext.net" Admin:Password /

Click Setup Wizard, select the original Wifi LAN you've got setup and want to extend.
Then enter any security passphrases.
Select an SSID for your extender.
On pressing next it should go through a load of ******** for a minute or so, then kick you off the network.

Reconnect to the extender and you should, theoretically have access to the original Wifi.

Oh one thing you might need to do, is check under the maintenance heading and then IP address.

Check to ensure you've got it set to dynamically acquire the IP, and that the DNS setting is correct, if it isn't usually using googles DNS is faster than most ISP's anyway (8.8.8.8)

Cheers - sorry for not getting back sooner. That's exactly what I did, when we re-connected to the extended LAN there was no connection to the internet. I have an IP for the extended LAN, and can ping the extender but not the original router. On mywifiext.net it says that it's connected to the old wifi LAN successfully, so I think we did everything as per the instructions, but obviously something ain't right just don't know what.

I don't know how it'd make a difference but my old man's existing wifi net is using WEP (sigh) and he's lost the admin password of the router (double-sigh).
