I'd like to switch my works rig over to an SSD drive as its starting to get a bit sluggish and was wondering if its possible to set the new SSD up and still be able to use the old HDD while installing all of the programs etc?

Hope that makes sense but ideally Id like to be installing programs onto the new HDD in the background while still being able to do some work.

If its not doable then I will just have to do it over a weekend.

Thanks

No.

When installing Windows on the new drive, disconnect all other hard drives. This will prevent any odd boot issues in the future.

One options is to clone your hard drive to the SSD, using Macrium Reflect Free.

Personally, I'd always go for a clean install.

Programs install really quickly on an SSD.

you will need to install windows on the SSD before installing the programs otherwise it will relate to the windows installed on the HDD.

best bet to do is to clone the current HDD and restore it on to the SSD, can keep the old drive as a slave in case you need to go back to it or anything

some SSD's come with cloning software, have you brought the SSD yet?

failing that, install windows on the SSD and then setup the HDD as a slave
