Run SETI on a GPU?
Run SETI on only one PC?

Apologies for there being no news post last week. I said it last time I did the news, but I'll say it again with more confidence: things will be back to normal from now on! Please also remember that the stats for user cobbly dumpage and single PC league are for the previous week only, with the rest of the news covering the full fortnight.

This is old news now, but it's the first chance I've had of officially reporting it: we've stomped TeAm AnandTech! A (very belated) congrats to all!

Our RAC beggars belief, now standing at a smidgen under 900,000. (Purely as a point of interest, the average five months ago was around 350,000.) Have we got enough under the bonnet to hit the magical one million?

This continuous ramp-up of production has placed a sixth team – Czech National Team – in our crosshairs. Also, Team Starfire World BOINC are only 16 days away from feeling our collective size 12s. The fact that GPU Users Group are on our tail isn't a problem, as they're appearing on the threat list of all but one team thanks to their phenomenal RAC.

Welcome to the new members, and as always congrats to the tiffy winners! Don't forget that you can get your tiffies from www.teamocuk.co.uk; simply click on your username, scroll to the bottom of the page and use the relevant link to display them in all their Technicolor beauty on this forum! If you think you've been missed off the milestones list then please let me know.

H'onwards and h'upwards!

With the price drops in the 460 cards I'm sorely tempted to pick one up for SETI. I have a few questions before I press the Buy button though:

1. By how much do they outperform a GTS250?
2. How loud do they tend to be when running at full tilt?
3. Is the Fermi app stable enough these days to allow for an unsupervised rig?

Also, I assume a 620W PSU with two PCI-E connectors will be up to the job (this will be in a rig that has an oc'd Q9550 with very few other components), but I'd feel much happier if someone with experience says it will do the job :D

As a side, would I be able to run a 460 and the GTS250 side by side or would that be asking too much?

Blimey... I think you two should be spending your money on anger-management courses instead of new hardware! :D

It is frustrating though when things don't work as you expect them to. Thankfully this rig of mine has never had any problems except for the very occasional random reboot (which is annoying, but it happens so infrequently that I tend to be able to just ignore it, putting it down to it being a bit of a grumpy bugger at times... think it might have picked that character trait up from me actually).

That app_info, er, info sounds right Toxic :)

Very true sah - wouldn't mind but it's not even covert, very in your face which is just not British!! :D

Aye, attempting to poach members is a little out of order.

Anyway, if it was done in a British way the invite would be something like "I say old chap, your output is totally spiffing! Would you mind awfully joining our wizard team?"
