Is anyone else having problems with up/downloading WU's for SETI?
I've got a 4 day backlog of completed results and about 3-4hrs of CPU WU's left before I'm down to GPU only for a day or 2 till they run out.
I sacrificed my VM Boinc client with a full uninstall/reinstall as that sometimes seems to sort this type of problem out, but even a fresh install only gets 1 WU which it completes then can't report.
This happened over Christmas where I lost a week plus of work but the reinstall fixed it that time.
Anyone got any ideas/info?

First of all, reboot your router.

Next, a couple of questions:

1) Is this the only machine on your account? If you have more than one, set at least one to stop accepting units and then update it, then wait an hour or two and update this one.
2) What messages do you get when you click "Update"?

I've tried router and modem before but just tried again with no luck.

1) Its the only 'active' machine on the account the other is in bits atm and has been for 1-2 months. So the only Boinc clients active are on this machine. I'll try uninstalling the VM client and leaving it off to see if that has any effect.

2) There are several variations but mainly
22/01/2010 03:18:43 SETI@home Scheduler request failed: Failure when receiving data from the peer
22/01/2010 03:18:48 Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
22/01/2010 03:18:49 Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.
or
22/01/2010 03:42:03 SETI@home Reporting 7 completed tasks, not requesting new tasks [even though there are 6-700+ in the transfers tab  and number stays the same no matter how many more it completes]
22/01/2010 03:42:35 Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
22/01/2010 03:42:36 Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.
22/01/2010 03:42:38 SETI@home Scheduler request failed: Failure when receiving data from the peer

"Not requesting tasks" usually happens because SETI thinks you have enough. This is probably because it isn't getting the units back, but knows you have them. This may be a red herring.

"Servers may be down" means SETI can't communicate with them. Currently they are fine for me, and no-one seems to be complaining, suggesting a comms issue at your end.

"Failure when receicing data from peer" I'm not sure about, but again sounds comms. What exactly is the setup here if you are using VM?

Hi thanks for that that's what I thought. The main client isn't running in a VM it a normal 6.10.18 client running normally.
I tried setting it up on the VM that is 'Folding only' last time this happened to see if it was at their end or mine, which suggested mine then, so I dumped a weeks worth of completed unreported results and reinstalled the main client again and its worked again for the last 2-3 weeks. I just don't want to regularly loose 3+ days worth of jobs without trying to find the problem.
I may just have to go over to folding only for the time being till I can figure it out :(.

Have the completed results that are sitting in the transfers tab been reported yet?

I'd post a thread on the SETI forums too, as problems are usually sorted out pretty quickly on there.

I'm assuming not as they try to upload (some are @ nearly 30mins of combined time trying to report) fail then it 'backs off' for however long then start again in a cycle.
The SETI forums are my next step i really don't want to loose that many completed WU's again.

Could this be related to that prob seen when the DNS for the seti servers gets wonky?

Easy enough to test, just add an entry into your hosts file

208.68.240.13 boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu

then force an update.

If it don't work change the address to 208.68.240.18 and force again.

If that don't work then forget I said anything:p

OK, well now I feel stupid for not trying this earlier although I haven't altered anything so didn't think that this could be the reason why it should have suddenly stopped. I shut down the firewall as a last gasp try and it now works which is odd as it has full access rights to upload and download?? Anywho after 30 mins solid of uploading all the units have been sent out :) so its not so much of a problem if it needs a reinstall although all seems fine and dandy atm so I don't think it will.
Just need to look into why the firewall suddenly decided that even though it had the correct setting and had worked for 2-3 weeks it couldn't access the SETI servers but at least if anyone else has these symptoms they may now have a solution.
Thanks for the help all.
