Im formatting my MCE rig later today, and wonder if anyone can advise me...

I need to play .mov , .avi , .mpg , .flac and .mp3 :)

I've been reading about FFDShow, and its better DVD quality, but then seem to see its not compatable, then someone else says it is ... any advise ?

If i install FFDShow, do i need powerdvd, RealplayerAlternative etc ?

I got the flac codec covered

I want the isntall as clean as possible obviously, so unnecessary codecs are a no-no

Thanks

Using

AMD Sempron 2800, 1gb DDR, nVidia 6100 onboard, Terratec Cinergy 2400i if it makes a difference

ffdshow, Real Alternative and QuickTime Alternative are all the codecs you should need. You may come across some weired codec that you required but just install codecs as and when you need them. Packs are useless.

At the moment I only have the XviD codec installed as I do not watch much Real or QuickTime.

For DVD's you will need a DVD codec, Power DVD, WinDVD etc... If you install one of these then uninstall it the codec will be left behind. ;)

I was reading FFDshow is best for DVDs ... as it scales them properly... or is that something else ? :o

Thanks for the response :)
