Hi, i recently purchased a BFG 7900GT OC. Now normally i'd just stick the card in and install the software and leave things be. But i've been reading a lot of posts on here with people getting great overclocks etc on their cards. I installed coolbits and let it find the max claock for me and it came up with 550/800 but i'm really not so sure about trusting this as it doesnt seem to test as thoroughly as Ati Tray Tools did for my old Ati card. Is there a bit of software i can use to test overclocks on this nvidia card?

Also having looked in the options of the driver software there seems to be a lot of things in there. At the moment i just have things like AA and AF set to application controlled and image settings to high quality, but there seems to be a lot more in there like tri-linear etc. Could someone advise if i should change any of these for better image? Not too bothered about performance as it already performs very well in games like Oblivion etc.

Cheers.

I used coolbits, and set both sliders to max , and it works perfect. When i get a new gpu fan, i shall volt mod it, and use other software to push the core speed hopefully toward the 650 mark, poss 700, dunno, will let u know.

I'm not really willing just to stick the sliders to the max and then start using the card like that without some way of testing it thoroughly, the control panel only seems to test it for a second or 2 :/

Will be great if it does overclock that much :)

I doubt you`d do any damage by setting the sliders up memory to max and set core to 590 to be on the safe side for now. I read a lot about this card before i did anythink, and though what the hell. If your worried, do it a step at a time, and see in game what happens.

Cheers AMD i'll give that a try after work tonight.

What about the settings in the driver software anyone shed some light on the best setting for picture quality in games?

Since the other day when i got the card and i let coolbits find the clocks of 550/800 i've been letting it run at 510/725 as more wasn't needed at the time. Tonight however when i try to get it to detect optimal frequencies it starts corrupting the desktop (looks like a lot of dead monitor pixels increasing as it keeps detecting, ie lots of blue, red and green dots appearing) before eventually rebooting

Can anyone shed some light onto why this would happen? It's not something i've came across before.

Edit - just to say that i can set the clocks to 550/800 and test manually and all is fine, it's only when letting the software detect optimals that it does it.
