Setting up a custom domain for email.

I'm wanting to set up a custom email address, for as cheap as possible.

I've had my address working fine for about 3 months, however the site i was using that held the MX Records was not a free to use site, and therefore de-activated my account after certain time.

I've bought my domain (£4?) and I was using 000webhost to attach my domain to, to list googleApps MX Records. Then obviously using google apps to receive the mail.

Does anyone know a replacement to take 000webhosts place? I just need to register my domain to a site, then tell it to point to Google for the MX.

If possible, is there a free one? If there are no free sites, i'd rather pay annual than monthly.

Cheers for any information.

(I had no idea what I'd search on google to find such results? I'm new to the whole domain/hosting thing)

Your registrar should allow you to use their nameservers and give you DNS control. If not transfer the domain to one that does.

Who did you register the domain with?

i've got my domains registered with heartinternet and they have an option in the control panel where you just click a button and it automatically sets it up to work with google apps

no need for an additional webhost like 000webhost

don't know if other registrars do this aswell

Thanks for the info guys,

My registrar is TsoHost, I can't seem to find such option in their control panel. They have a list of name servers I can edit (which are currently pointing to 000webhost). However there are no more options available like the ones described on the google apps setup page (i.e. priorities etc)?

I'll have a look into transferring my domain over to another site.

In which case you could put in a support request and have them edit the MX records. No need to transfer unless you really want full DNS control. Tso are a good company to deal with.

I've taken your advice, an sent a support ticket into TSO. I would have had to send a ticket in anyway to transfer my domain (as it's a .uk and would need a tag change to be transferred).

I'll sit back and wait for a response ;)

-Update

TSOHost don't support DNS management for free, so they were unable to set MX Records.
(Support for TSOHost is amazing btw, best support and fastest I've ever used!)

I've transferred my domain over to heartinternet to have a play about there.

It got me thinking though, when I transferred the domain from TSO to Heart Internet, there was no validation? I literally just typed in a domain name and now I can manage it? (am I missing something here, or is that insecure?)

not sure about .com addresses but with .co.uk you should have had to change the nominet tag within the TSOhost control panel before heartinternet had control of it

Ah yeah, I forgot about that.

I was talking to the guy from TSO like an msn convo with emails! He did have the tag for the site.

But as you say, I don't know how .com and .net etc would be validated.
