setting up a domain

hey guys,

anyone explain what exactly a network domain is and how it differs from a normal home lan network? Iv used domains in work before but im wonderiing if you can apply the same thing to a home network. any advantages of it?

just more of a fact finding request rather than a 'i need help' request!
