Ok, so I've tried all sorts of software and i'm having a bit of hassle if I'm honest. All i need is a secure easy way of transferring files to my WHS. So i assume installing a secure FTP would be the best way. But i can't find anything that's decent and free, and easy to setup :p

So basically I'm after some recommendations of free or at least cheap SFTP/FTPS server software that i can run (preferably as a service) on my WHS box. And have it all play nice with port forwarding (unlike what seems to be most FTP's! :mad).

You see that doesn't sound "easy" to me :p I did have a play with FreeSSH which i think is just a windows version of OpenSSH, but i couldn't seem to connect internally or externally, at all...

Hmm...I see. Cygwin can be awkward if you've not used it before. I've not used FreeSSHd but I see they have their own forum. If you wanted to try and get it working you could try asking for assistance there.
