Setting up a Kindle Fire for a child

My daughters Fire for kids broke a couple of weeks back, and is out of the free replacement period.
We decided that she's old enough, and trustworthy enough, to have the 'normal' Fire tablet now, which gets rid of some of the restrictions which were irritating rather than helpful.

I'm struggling to decide how best to set it up though.

Should I connect it to my own Amazon account? Would it be possible, if I do that, to give this one device a completely separate identity so she's seeing only her own list of apps / Prime video films, etc?

At the moment I've created a completely fresh account using her own email address to make it independant. But I'm wondering if that was the best choice now. If she wants anything (and I agree) that actually costs money, I'll have to enter my payment details and presumably delete them again right afterwards because the password to access them will be the password for her account. (She's trustworthy - but I'm not about to blindly give her unsupervised access to my credit card!)

Any thoughts or advice gratefully received. :)
