Hey All.
I have just got a patriot box office player to use instead of my ps3 to stream movies, the main reason was the playstation was only used to stream stuff and not play any games so i decided to get a smaller unit which uses less power ect.

Now,i didn't have any problems with the ps3 as i used a 3rd party program to stream which was ok (sometimes),im trying to set up this patriot box office thingy and it keeps on asking for a username password,im sure i have done all the settings on my pc ok but cant figure out why its asking for a user name and password,i can see my pc name on the patriot but not the folder im sharing.

Any ideas people ?

right, all i can gather is that the patriot is asking for a username and password, the password i have which is under the home-group settings, what will be my username ?

My pc or folder im sharing,i have tried both but none work.

I have not really used homegroups much, but there are 2 things which come to mind:

1) the security permissions need adjusting on the shared folder, try adding "everyone" with read permissions

2) you can login instead, but your user account needs a password set, you might also need to use the computer name so the domain is correct, the login username would then be <computer name>\<user name>.

Try typing in your computer username (whatever you login with or setup when you first installed Windows) and leave the password field blank.

Permissions are most likely the issue. How are the files getting from your PC to the media player? Share, home group ?

Share.

I have a 4tb nas coming today for this reason as well, sharing files over the network to the patriot, hope its easier to set up than this lol.

Could create a new user just for sharing and give it read access to the share. Even with a NAS, you'll probably need some from of login credentials to access it from the media player.

My satellite box has a built in media player, and I need to enter a username and password to mount a share from my NAS.

Where do i create this username password ?

Might get rid of this and get something else, doing my head in now

Just in Windows under User Accounts > Manage Another Account > Create new User.

After its made, just add it in with read permissions on the folder you want to share.

If you are using a NAS, you will need to make the account on that instead under the Web UI if it has one. Then add that account in with the relevant permissions on the Web UI as well.

Still no luck, after changing the reg i get the username and password box filled in for me.

The user name is "realtek guest" and the password is starred out.

When i click ok it just says "log on failed" but i can see all the drives on my pc via the patriot but some of them are doubled and one of the doubled has a $ next to it.

Right,i have done everything on the patriot site.

I can now see one folder on the patriot, the thing is,on my pc under the network there is four folders im sharing but the patriot can only see one ?
